Position Overview:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation to patients as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This role involves patient simulation procedures, treatment preparation, administration, monitoring, and documentation, while ensuring a safe, supportive, and efficient care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer radiation therapy treatments in accordance with the oncologist’s prescription and established protocols.
- Perform patient simulations and prepare necessary equipment such as immobilization devices, shielding blocks, and appropriate field sizes.
- Verify treatment parameters, including monitor units (MUs), beam energy, and prescribed adjustments, documenting all treatment data, cumulative doses, and site-specific doses accurately in the treatment chart.
- Educate patients by explaining procedures and reinforcing the oncologist’s or nurse’s instructions regarding potential side effects and aftercare.
- Monitor patients during treatments, observing for and promptly addressing any unusual reactions or incidents.
- Conduct treatment simulations and related tasks such as cerrobend block fabrication, x-ray development, and port film filing as required.
- Maintain treatment areas by ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and adequate stock of supplies and materials.
- Complete all required documentation for patient care, treatment progress, and discharge according to departmental standards.
- Participate actively in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives by identifying opportunities for process improvement, patient satisfaction enhancement, and safety hazard prevention.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and escalate non-routine concerns to appropriate personnel.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
Certifications & Licensure:
- Current state license (if applicable).
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiation Therapy [RT(T)].
